Cooperation Program between
Latin America, the Caribbean and
the European Union on drug policy

Dominican Republic

We support the Dominican Republic to strengthen its National Drug Observatory, reduce demand through community-based treatment approaches and reduce supply through the control of precursor chemicals.

How do we support the country?

Strengthening the National Drug Observatory
  • 1 national research network to strengthen the national drug information system
  • 1 Scientific Committee on Drugs to advise the National Drug Observatory of Dominican Republic
Drug demand reduction
  • 1 community treatment project in the Bani Correction and Rehabilitation Centre for women in prison to promote social integration and wellbeing, from which a territorialisation strategy is developed to be included in the new national drugs policy in the area of public safety and prisons.
Control of chemical precursors
  • 1 manual on the management and final disposal of drug precursor chemicals.
  • 1 study visit to Costa Rica to exchange knowledge and experience on the management and disposal of chemical precursors.
  • 1 technical assistance to strengthen control systems for precursor chemicals.
Proportionality and criminal alternatives
  • 1 protocol for the implementation of the restorative justice programme for youth involved in minor drug offences that promotes rehabilitation and social reintegration.
